Googlebook "Matsu" Development Status: The Wildcat Lake-Powered Ocelot Derivative

calendar_monthAugust 23, 2026

Google's "Matsu" is a derivative of the "Ocelot" Googlebook board powered by Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake). Code suggests it could be an Acer model.

"Matsu," a Googlebook currently in development by Google, is one of the earliest devices derived from "Ocelot," the reference board powered by Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake). Compared to "Ojal," which was spotted around the same time, development on Matsu is further along, offering several clues regarding its basic specifications and manufacturer. In this article, we will round up the development status of the Googlebook "Matsu" and everything we know so far.

Development Status So Far

Derived from "Ocelot," the pre-production reference board powered by Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) that began development in May 2025, "Matsu" was first spotted in September of the same year.

Even at the early design stage, the code contained hints about several key hardware specifications, indicating the following features:

  • Form Factor: Clamshell or convertible options

  • Display: 14-inch class display, with optional touch support

  • Storage: UFS or NVMe storage

  • Connectivity: Up to two USB-C ports, up to one USB-A port, and Wi-Fi 7 support

  • Charging: Up to 65W charging support

  • Biometrics & Keyboard: Fingerprint sensor and keyboard backlight support

Additionally, battery code added in the early development phase points to a battery model number previously used in Acer Chromebooks and Googlebooks. This strongly suggests that the Matsu will likely be manufactured by Acer.

Positioning as a Mid-Range Googlebook

The initial wave of Googlebooks, scheduled for a launch event on September 15, 2026, will belong to the highest-end category known as "Aluminium (AL) Premium". This tier is known to include models powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake).

On the other hand, because "Matsu" utilizes the more affordable Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) processor, it is expected to sit in the tier just below, labeled "AL Mass Premium," making it a mid-range Googlebook.

In terms of pricing, while the high-end AL Premium models are anticipated to cost around $1,000 to $1,400, the AL Mass Premium category will likely be priced between $799 and $999—positioning it closer to high-end Chromebook Plus models.

Furthermore, previous investigations confirmed that Acer's Core Ultra Series 3-powered Googlebook (codenamed Moonstone) will carry the retail name "Acer Googlebook GP714-91N," following a naming convention highly reminiscent of Chromebooks. If "Matsu" is indeed an Acer-made device, it is highly plausible that it could hit the market under a model name like "Acer Googlebook GP514".

Release Timing Remains Unclear.

While the first wave of premium Googlebooks is set to be announced on September 15, 2026, the launch window for Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) models and other Googlebooks currently in development remains unknown.

However, given that development has been underway since last year and Windows laptops featuring the same chip are already on the market, we could see an official announcement in late 2026 or early 2027.
