Google has revealed that it will host a media preview event in New York City on September 15, 2026, dedicated to "Googlebook"—its new Android-based laptop platform.
Official invitations have already been dispatched to several media outlets, including Chrome Unboxed, with hardware displays planned alongside the announcement, similar to the previous Chromebook Plus launch.
What to Expect at the Event
The upcoming event is expected to include the following:
-
Keynote Address by Google Executives: An official explanation of the new computing platform, software architecture, and the vision to unify ChromeOS and Android into a single native codebase.
-
OEM Partner Demo Stations: Hands-on stations featuring real devices from Google’s initial launch partners will be available at the venue.
-
Hands-On Media Access: Attending media will be given direct access to operate, photograph, and benchmark the initial wave of Googlebook hardware.
Additionally, Google is expected to officially announce the formal name of the OS, which remained undecided during the initial May announcement and was provisionally referred to as "Aluminium OS".
However, following the timeline of the Chromebook Plus announcement, devices may not go on sale immediately after the media event, but rather a few days to several weeks later.
What About the First Wave of Googlebooks?
While specific details regarding the exact models on display remain undisclosed, Google has already confirmed that Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are its five initial launch partners.
Based on development progress so far, six models across these five manufacturers are considered primary candidates for the initial rollout:
All of these are high-end laptops belonging to the top-tier "Aluminium Premium" category within the Googlebook lineup.
In addition, preparations are underway for dedicated accessories, including a mouse and a stylus designed for the platform.
