Google's "Moonstone," currently in development, is a device derived from "Fatcat," the reference board for Googlebooks powered by Intel's Panther Lake (Core Ultra Series 3).
Within the Fatcat series, Moonstone entered development relatively late, sharing many similarities with its series counterpart, "Kinmen." While initially thought to be a Chromebook Plus, a connection to Aluminium OS discovered in October 2025 suggested it would instead be a next-generation device.

The Development Timeline So Far
Development of Moonstone began in September 2025. It was copied and built from Kinmen, but designed as a convertible rather than a clamshell. The base design is shared with Kinmen, and it is expected to be a 14-inch class device that omits the numeric keypad.
Early on, several factors pointed to Moonstone being an Acer-manufactured device: its close resemblance to Kinmen, battery-related documentation, and the fact that its lead developer is known for working on numerous Acer products.

Later, commits regarding the logo displayed on the OS boot screen all but confirmed that Moonstone would indeed be an Acer device. Furthermore, commits related to the touchpad verified its association with Aluminium OS (ALOS). Aluminium OS is the new Android-based OS integrated with ChromeOS that will be adopted for Googlebooks.
Finally, with the official announcement of Googlebooks in May 2026, it became a certainty that the "Fatcat" series would be released under the Googlebook branding, rather than as Chromebook Plus devices.

Like Kinmen, two prototype port configurations have been confirmed for Moonstone. Initially, indications suggested multiple USB-C ports would support USB4; however, subsequent commits hinted that USB4 support might be limited to a single port.
Additionally, we've spotted prototype benchmarks under the name "Quanta Moonstone" listed on Geekbench. "Quanta," the name used for the registration, is a manufacturer that handles the production of Acer devices.


We can confirm two configurations: one with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 and 16GB of RAM, and another with a Core Ultra 7 355 and 32GB of RAM. Notably, likely due to its prototype status, the device is running Android 16.
Average scores sit at approximately 2,480 for single-core and 9,470 for multi-core. These numbers closely align with previously spotted devices using the same chip, such as "Fatcat" and "Ruby". Compared to the Core Ultra (Series 2) used in Chromebook Plus models, this represents a roughly 1.5x performance bump in both single-core and multi-core output.
Product Name Revealed as "Googlebook 14 GP714"
From the Bluetooth SIG certification database, it has been revealed that the device corresponding to "Moonstone" will be the "Acer Googlebook 14 GP714-91N." The following four model numbers have been confirmed from the database:

Additionally, information posted by a retailer indicates that it will feature a 14-inch 2.8K resolution display supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. It was also noted that the release date will be around November 2026.
The Takeaway
Given the evidence from the OEM logo, it is almost certain that Moonstone will be an Acer device.
The first wave of Googlebooks is scheduled for release in Fall 2026, and based on its development progress, Moonstone is highly likely to be part of this initial launch lineup.
Meanwhile, development has already begun on a new board called "Penghu", based on Moonstone's design. However, Penghu is not part of the Fatcat series; instead, it belongs to the "Atria" series, which will serve as the reference board for next-generation Intel Nova Lake processors.
