Overview

On September 21, 2026, Lenovo officially announced the "Lenovo Googlebook 15," the official production model of the development board previously known as "Ruby."

The laptop features a 15.3-inch 3K (2,880×1,800) OLED touchscreen display supporting a 120Hz refresh rate, peak brightness of up to 500 nits, and 100% DCI-P3 wide color gamut. Despite its large 15-inch class display, it maintains a lightweight and slim profile, weighing approximately 1.29 kg and measuring 15.9 mm in thickness.

Under the hood, it is powered by the Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD.

Biometric authentication options include both a fingerprint sensor and IR camera facial recognition. Additional hardware highlights include a haptic touchpad, a 5MP webcam with a physical privacy shutter, and Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.

Connectivity includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports alongside USB-A and HDMI 2.0 ports. Its 70Wh battery delivers up to 16 hours of battery life. Additionally, Lenovo offers dedicated accessories such as the "Lenovo AI Mouse for Googlebook," as well as support for proprietary customization and hardware diagnostic software.

 

Development Status

The Googlebook "Ruby" is currently in development by Lenovo as part of the "Fatcat" series, which will feature Intel’s Panther Lake processors. Previous code commits regarding the boot screen logo revealed it to be a Lenovo device, and its existence has since been corroborated by Geekbench benchmark scores and Lenovo's official website.

The Development Story So Far

Development on the "Ruby" board began in October 2025. Early commits indicated that it would be a large, 15- to 16-inch clamshell model equipped with a dedicated numeric keypad.

Subsequent code additions—specifically details regarding the battery, the engineers assigned to it, and commits related to the Ruby boot screen logo—ultimately identified it as a Lenovo device. Furthermore, references to a "forcepad / fpad" have been discovered, suggesting that "Ruby" will feature a force-touch, haptic feedback trackpad.

Initially, there was speculation that the device might be a new Chromebook Plus model. However, by February, ties to Android (Aluminium OS) and prototype benchmarks had already surfaced. Following the official unveiling of the Googlebook in May 2026, it became a certainty that this device will officially launch under the Googlebook moniker.

More recently, the "Lenovo GB 15IPH12"—widely believed to be Lenovo's Googlebook "Ruby"—was spotted in both the TCO Certified product database and on Geekbench. This same model number was also verified on Lenovo's official website, where it was listed as the "Aluminium Premium - Lenovo 15IPH12."

This confirms beyond a doubt that the "Lenovo 15IPH12" is indeed a Googlebook. Given how perfectly it aligns with the ongoing development timeline, it is safe to conclude that this model and "Ruby" are one and the same.

Expected Specs and Benchmarks

The TCO database sheds light on the display, confirming a 15.3-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a sharp 2,880 x 1,800 resolution. While it remains unconfirmed whether the deck will include a dedicated numeric keypad, it is highly plausible given that other Chromebooks in this size class typically feature one.

On the performance front, multiple Geekbench listings point to an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 paired with 16GB of RAM, running Android 17. The benchmark scores are solid, averaging around 2,445 for single-core and 9,619 for multi-core performance.

Beyond the silicon, the Ruby is expected to pack a versatile I/O selection, including two USB4-compatible Type-C ports, a legacy USB-A port, and an HDMI output. Rounding out the premium feature set are a fingerprint sensor and an optional backlit keyboard.

Interestingly, the Ruby isn't the only Lenovo device on the horizon. Another Lenovo Googlebook, codenamed "Sapphire," is widely expected to debut alongside it. Recent leaks have already begun to paint a picture of that device as well, pointing to a "Duet 13M9611" model number and support for a dedicated stylus.
