Google’s Ocicat is a derivative of the Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) Ocelot Googlebook board. Code suggests a 14-inch convertible model from HP.

Google’s upcoming "Ocicat" is one of the devices derived from "Ocelot," a Googlebook reference board powered by the Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) processor. Development of Ocicat began slightly after early devices like "Ojal" and "Matsu," with initial code changes indicating it will be a touch-enabled convertible device.

In this article, we round up the development progress of the Googlebook "Ocicat" and break down everything we know about this highly anticipated device.

Development History & Expected Specs

"Ocicat" is a derivative of "Ocelot"—the pre-production reference board equipped with Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) chips. It was first spotted on the Chromium Gerrit in November 2025.

Based on early development code, Ocicat is expected to feature the following specifications:

  • Form Factor: 14-inch class, touch-enabled convertible (without side volume buttons)

  • Storage: UFS or NVMe Gen 4 SSD

  • Connectivity: Up to 2x USB-C ports, up to 1x USB-A port, and an HDMI port

  • Power: Up to 65W fast charging

  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 7 support

  • Biometrics: Fingerprint sensor

Furthermore, newly added battery code reveals a battery part number previously used in HP Chromebooks and Googlebooks.

Given that the developer assigned to this project has recently only worked on the "HP Chromebook x360 14b" and "HP Chromebook Plus x460 14c" (Kaladin), there is a strong possibility that Ocicat will launch as an HP-branded Googlebook.

HP Could Deliver an Intel-Powered Mid-Range Googlebook

During the upcoming launch event on September 15, 2026, where the first wave of "Aluminium Premium" Googlebooks will debut, HP is expected to release the Snapdragon X Elite-powered "HP Googlebook 14c (Quartz)".

While not yet officially confirmed, if Ocicat indeed turns out to be an HP Googlebook, it would represent a departure from the initial wave of high-end models. Instead, it could arrive as a mid-range laptop powered by an Intel chip.

We expect this mid-range offering to target a more accessible price point, likely around $999. If HP sticks to its traditional Chromebook naming conventions, the device could hit shelves as the "HP Googlebook x360 14c".

Release Window Remains Uncertain

While the first wave of high-end Googlebooks is scheduled for announcement on September 15, 2026, there is no official word on when Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) models or other development-stage Googlebooks will be revealed.

However, considering that active development has been underway since last year and Windows laptops sporting the same chip are already on the market, we anticipate a release window spanning late 2026 to early 2027.
