Here is your weekly roundup of key news and developments surrounding Googlebook and Googlebook OS for the week of September 28 to October 4, 2026.

Highlights this week include Google’s newly outlined migration plan for existing Chromebooks to Googlebook OS, early Geekbench benchmarks pointing to an upcoming Samsung-built Googlebook, and the release of new dedicated apps on the Play Store.

Googlebook OS Migration and Support Roadmap

Google updated its admin support documentation to detail how existing Chromebooks will transition to Googlebook OS.

Chromebooks whose support period exceeded 2034 at the time of purchase are expected to be eligible candidates for the upgrade, though specific supported models and migration procedures will be announced at a later date.

Support for current Chromebooks will continue up to mid-2034, while comprehensive commercial management features for Googlebook are scheduled to roll out gradually starting in late 2027.

Samsung Googlebook Surfaces on Geekbench

Benchmark results for an unannounced Samsung device, identified as the "Samsung XE940XSA," have appeared on Geekbench.

The listing reveals that the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100 processor paired with 16GB of RAM, running Android 17. The laptop is expected to hit the market between late 2026 and early 2027.

New Googlebook Apps Arrive on the Play Store

Google has published two new applications tailored for Googlebook to the Play Store, targeting both general consumers and developers.

"Viewer": All-in-One Media & Document Management

Google launched "Viewer," an all-in-one app designed for viewing and editing photos, videos, audio, and PDF files in a single hub.

Beyond standard PDF markup and signature capabilities, Viewer integrates AI features that automatically parse dates and locations within content, prompting users with contextual actions such as adding events to Google Calendar or looking up directions in Google Maps.

"Antigravity": On-Device AI Agent Platform for Developers

Google released the native Android version of "Antigravity," an AI agent development platform.

Antigravity hooks directly into the Linux environment on Googlebook OS, enabling developers to build and deploy applications entirely locally without reliance on external cloud servers.

The Bottom Line

Ahead of the initial Googlebook market rollout, Google is laying critical groundwork by clarifying OS migration paths and launching essential software infrastructure.

Additionally, the development of a new device by Samsung has been confirmed, and an expansion of the lineup following the release is also expected. We will continue to track and report on the latest developments regarding Googlebook.
