Google's development of Snapdragon X-powered Googlebooks under the "Bluey" reference family has expanded with the addition of a new development board codenamed "Aneto."
Because this board is treated as a derivative of "Matsu"—which features Intel's Wildcat Lake processors—the core hardware configuration is expected to be very similar. However, the CPU has been swapped for a Snapdragon processor, and evidence suggests the manufacturing partner could be HP rather than Acer.
"Aneto" Joins "Bluey" Family as a Derivative of "Matsu"
The newly initiated "Aneto" development is built upon the "Bluey" reference board, which serves as the foundation for Snapdragon X-powered Googlebooks. Chromium Gerrit commits indicate that Aneto is actually a derivative of "Matsu," an Intel Wildcat Lake (Core Series 3)-powered Googlebook currently in the works.

In essence, Aneto appears to port Matsu's hardware specifications over to the Snapdragon X platform, despite the difference in CPU architecture.
While previous development leaks pointed to Acer manufacturing the Intel-based "Matsu," battery-related code for "Aneto" suggests it may be destined for an HP device.

This is because the code contains descriptors unique to HP devices, and the specified battery model matches the Snapdragon X Elite-powered HP Googlebook (Quartz). However, the Quanta developer who submitted the commits is known to work on Chromebooks (and some Googlebooks) for both HP and Acer, meaning the final manufacturer remains unconfirmed.
Expected Specifications
If "Aneto" is indeed based on "Matsu," it will likely be a 14-inch class Googlebook. Based on current commits, the device is expected to feature the following specifications:

If HP is indeed the manufacturer, they already have a higher-end Snapdragon X Elite Googlebook in development. Therefore, "Aneto" would likely be positioned as a lower-tier model sporting the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 chip. If Acer is the manufacturer, this would be their first Snapdragon X Googlebook, meaning they could opt for either the Plus or Elite chips—or both.
That said, Acer is also working on a high-end Intel Core Ultra-powered Googlebook. Furthermore, Google is already working on next-generation Snapdragon X2 models. Given this timeline, adopting a first-generation flagship Snapdragon chip at this stage seems unlikely.
Indeed, other boards that entered development in late July and early August 2026, such as "Annite" and "Pic," also point toward the Snapdragon X Plus rather than the Elite.
Still in Early Development
At this stage, "Aneto" is in the very early phases of code development, and full hardware details are not yet locked in. Specifications and manufacturing partners can easily change as development progresses.
While Google is hosting a Googlebook preview event in September 2026 where we expect to see the first wave of retail models, newly discovered boards like "Aneto" and other recently spotted Googlebook development boards are not expected to launch until late 2026 or early 2027.
