Code for "Coolum," a derivative model within the " Ocelot " reference board family for Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake)-powered Googlebooks currently under development by Google, has been updated.
When development of " Coolum " first began, it was expected to be a Lenovo model based on the work history of the development engineer. However, newly added battery-related code suggests that it could actually be an HP Googlebook.
Battery Code Points to the Possibility of an HP Model
Recently, battery-related descriptions were added to Coolum's code, introducing the following battery part numbers:
-
atl-313-b7-2d-a
-
smp-333-1d-2d-a
This part numbering convention matches the batteries used in previous HP Chromebooks and Googlebooks. Because of this, it is highly likely that Coolum is an HP device.
Additionally, the most recent commits were submitted by a new engineer at Huaqin rather than the previous Huaqin developer who was initially confirmed to be working on Lenovo devices.
Relationship to Other Models Under Development
Among the key Wildcat Lake models identified so far, we have Acer's " Matsu ", ASUS's " Hekla ", HP's " Ocicat ", Lenovo's " Blanc ", and "Coolum."
Initially, both Blanc and Coolum were expected to be Lenovo devices. However, if Coolum turns out to be an HP model, HP may release two devices instead of Lenovo.
Previous code changes indicate that Ocicat is being developed as a convertible while Coolum is a clamshell, meaning HP could offer two models in different form factors.
While the manufacturer is not yet officially confirmed, Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake)-powered Googlebooks are expected to hit the market as affordable devices starting in early 2027 or later.
