A new development board named "Coolum" has been added to Google's "Ocelot" family—the reference design powering upcoming Googlebook equipped with Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) processors.
While only bare-minimum configuration files have been committed so far, key details within the codebase offer valuable insights into what to expect from this new device.
"Coolum": A Clamshell Derivative of the Ocelot Platform
"Coolum" was registered in late September as a derivative model, created by copying code from the "Ocelot" reference board designed for Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) chips.
Code commits reveal support for a touchscreen display alongside the removal of tablet mode detection and physical volume buttons, strongly indicating that Coolum will feature a standard touch-enabled clamshell form factor.
Furthermore, initial commits confirm support for up to 65W USB-C charging, active fan cooling, a backlit keyboard, and dedicated controller setups for both USB-C and USB-A ports.
While complete hardware specifications remain undisclosed, the engineers assigned to Coolum are also involved in other Lenovo Googlebook projects—such as "Sapphire" and "Meru"—as well as Chromebook boards like "Pujjocento" and "Ciri." This heavily implies that Coolum is being developed as a Lenovo Googlebook.
Lenovo's Current Googlebook Pipeline
Lenovo's most imminent Googlebook release is believed to be the "Lenovo Googlebook Duet m (13", 11)", a 2-in-1 detachable device powered by MediaTek's Dimensity CX C10 Max.
Internally codenamed "Sapphire," the device was initially expected to sport the Kompanio Ultra 910. However, recent developments suggest it will feature MediaTek's newly announced Dimensity CX platform (essentially a minor refresh of the Kompanio Ultra 910).
Beyond MediaTek, Lenovo is also expanding its ARM portfolio with Snapdragon X-powered Googlebooks, with two potential models identified in code commits: "Pic" and "Meru."
On the x86 side, Lenovo's Intel lineup previously only included the high-end "Lenovo Googlebook 15" (codenamed Ruby), which launched during the first wave of Googlebook announcements featuring Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors.
Given that Lenovo already offers a flagship Intel configuration, adding a more affordable Intel Core Series 3 model to round out its lineup is a logical next step.
Release Timeline and Availability
To date, five Intel Core Series 3 (Wildcat Lake) Googlebook models have been spotted in development. Manufacturers have been tentatively identified for three of them: ASUS, Acer, and HP. If Lenovo is indeed behind Coolum, at least four of the original five launch partners will offer Core Series 3 devices. However, official release dates remain unconfirmed.
With the first wave of Googlebooks hitting store shelves on October 4 and the Lenovo Googlebook Duet m 13 still awaiting official announcement, devices in the budget-friendly Ocelot family—including Coolum—are unlikely to launch before early 2027.
