Product images of the upcoming ASUS Googlebook "CX9406CAA" (codenamed "Lapis") have leaked online, offering the first look at the device's physical design.
The information was first reported by 9to5Google, which spotted images listed on the iF Design Award website before they were subsequently removed. While previous leaks involving internal codenames, certification records, and early benchmarks had offered clues about its hardware specifications, this marks the first confirmation of the actual hardware design.
What the Leaked Images Reveal
Based on the published images, the laptop sports a dark gray, carbon-texture finish, accented by a "Glow Bar" (an LED light strip) positioned above the ASUS logo on the top lid.
While low image resolution requires some degree of interpretation, the left side appears to house a USB-C port, a USB-A port, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The right side features an additional USB-C port and a USB-A port.
Earlier development leaks suggested that while both USB-C ports would support USB4, the device would include only a single USB-A port and lack HDMI connectivity. If these latest renders are accurate, the physical port selection is notably more versatile than expected.
The keyboard layout features dedicated Quick Insert, Launcher ("G"), and Fn keys, consistent with recent Chromebook Plus models released since 2025. This design element was previously observed in Google's official Googlebook teaser video.
Regarding the display, the device is expected to feature a 14-inch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Following the trend set by other confirmed models—such as the "Moonstone: Acer Googlebook 14 GP714-91N" and "Ruby: Lenovo Googlebook i (15”, 12)"—it is anticipated to pack a high-resolution display in the 2.5K to 2.8K class.
Sub-1kg Weight and "Ultra-Ceramic Light Alloy" Construction
Accompanying text on the iF Design page noted that the chassis utilizes an "Ultra-Ceramic Light Alloy," keeping the total weight under 1 kg.
The "CX9406" model designation indicates a close technical relationship with ASUS's enterprise Windows counterpart, the ASUS ExpertBook Ultra (B9406). Consequently, both devices likely share key design principles, including ceramic-blend materials, a sub-990g weight profile, and flagship-tier performance.
The listing also referenced metrics such as "34% lighter and 13% stronger," though these figures lacked explicit context for comparison and contained minor phrasing discrepancies, suggesting final marketing terminology may evolve prior to official announcement.
What We Know About the CX9406 So Far
The Googlebook CX9406 ("Lapis") is being developed as part of the "Fatcat" family powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) processors. It is scheduled for release during the initial rollout wave in Fall 2026.
