Will Chromebook’s 10-Year Guarantee Carry Over to the Googlebook?
Currently, Chromebooks (ChromeOS) boast up to 10 years of "Auto Update Expiration (AUE)," ensuring long-term security and usability—a feature highly valued by schools, enterprises, and general consumers alike.
On the other hand, the Googlebook adopts "Aluminium OS," which is based on Android rather than ChromeOS. Since the underlying operating system is closer to mobile, the delivery and duration of updates might end up depending on individual original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Is the Pixel’s 7-Year Benchmark Enough?
Currently, Google's flagship Pixel smartphones lead the mobile market with up to 7 years of software support, and other Android manufacturers are slowly following suit with 5+ year lifecycles.
For a smartphone that lives in a pocket and faces daily wear-and-tear and battery degradation, seven years is a remarkably long lifespan. However, laptops are typically kept much longer than phones, meaning a 7-year support window might not feel sufficient for a Googlebook.
