An early build of the "Device Intelligence" app designed for Googlebook has revealed detailed information about previously hinted AI-powered features.
According to Android Authority, features such as local file automatic classification using AI and direct integration with Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) have been confirmed to be functional.
AI-Powered File Classification and "Collections" Feature
One of the key features detailed in the "Device Intelligence" app is the automatic classification of files stored in local storage. The AI analyzes these files and organizes them into folders called "Collections" based on topics, events, or tasks.
For instance, the AI is expected to automatically group multiple files related to travel planning, making them accessible from a single location.
This automatic classification feature is turned off by default and can be enabled by the user. A pop-up prompt displayed when enabling the feature states that files are not sent off the device and will not be used for AI model training.
Additionally, a desktop widget is provided for direct access to "Collections," allowing users to access necessary data without opening the Files app.
Notably, the inclusion of this automatic classification feature was previously suggested in a leak of Aluminium OS in May 2026.
Gemini Notebook Integration and File Sharing
Another feature is integration with Gemini Notebook, allowing users to directly add locally stored files to existing or newly created notebooks.
Gemini Notebook will appear as a destination in the system's standard share sheet, enabling users to send files directly from apps like Google Photos. The file size limit for sharing is set at 200MB.
Please note that these confirmed features are based on a build currently in development, and specifications may change by the time of the official release.
Google is scheduled to host a Googlebook preview event in New York on September 15, 2026. However, this does not mean the release or full details of Googlebook will be immediately disclosed on that day.
