Reports have emerged indicating that some Googlebook users are experiencing issues where windows intermittently flicker or temporarily grey out while using Chrome, web apps, or split-screen mode.
Posts regarding this issue have appeared on X and Reddit. While primarily affecting HP Googlebook 14 users, similar web app screen flickering has also been observed on a Dell XPS Googlebook, suggesting the problem may not be isolated to a single device model.
Issues Being Reported
According to reports from HP Googlebook 14 users, frequent flickering occurs specifically within app windows. This does not affect the entire display but is confined to active web apps such as Chrome, Gmail, X, and Gemini.
The issue occurs irregularly—not only during text input, but also when opening or closing menus, or simply moving the cursor within the window.

On the other hand, non-Chrome Android apps remain unaffected. Because the problem does not impact the entire display, it is highly likely a software-related issue tied to browser rendering and control rather than a hardware defect.
Similar screen flickering has been noted on our Dell XPS Googlebook, where using Google Docs in split-screen view occasionally causes the window to grey out.
Additionally, another Dell XPS Googlebook user reported experiencing localized screen flickering when the refresh rate dropped to 30Hz, though the issue has reportedly stopped occurring recently.
Potential Causes and Update Status
As of now, neither Google nor the manufacturers have officially acknowledged the issue or confirmed its root cause. However, given that the flickering is isolated to web apps and observed across devices from multiple brands like HP and Dell, it points toward a software bug rather than an initial hardware flaw.
Recently, a system update was rolled out for Intel-powered models, addressing Chrome visual glitches, rendering stability, and OLED display rendering issues. However, this update has not yet been released for Qualcomm-powered devices from HP and Dell.
While it remains uncertain whether a similar update will reach Qualcomm-based devices soon, Google is already working on fixes for several issues based on user feedback, raising expectations that a resolution for this flickering issue will follow.
