Google has revealed that it is working on fixes for three issues reported on first-generation Googlebooks: Bluetooth audio delay, Gboard's "Writing Tools" being unavailable, and a bug with "Cast My Apps" during tethering.
Mishaal Rahman responded to user feedback on Reddit regarding these issues, explaining that the product team is currently working on solutions.
Bluetooth audio latency and codec support
On Googlebook, when official earbuds like Pixel Buds are connected to watch YouTube videos, users have reported an issue on Reddit where the video and audio become out of sync. This problem has been confirmed on devices such as the Dell XPS Googlebook and HP Googlebook 14, occurring across both the YouTube app and the browser version.
Additionally, Snapdragon-powered models are restricted to the SBC codec only, leaving higher-quality options like AAC and LC3 unavailable.
In a Reddit comment, Mishaal Rahman explained that Google is preparing two improvements: fixing latency with specific Bluetooth devices and expanding codec support to include AAC. However, a release timeline has not been announced.
Gboard "Writing Tools" missing issue
In some user environments, reports indicate that Gboard's AI feature, "Writing Tools," is unavailable.
Even after attempting factory resets, switching the system language to English, or leaving the device charging to complete AI model downloads, the feature remains greyed out in text fields within Gmail and Google Docs.
Google is currently testing a change to address this issue and plans to roll out a fix once ready. Meanwhile, some users report that the feature became available after a system update or re-setup.
At the time of writing, this issue has not occurred on the author's Googlebook (Japanese environment).
"Cast My Apps" bug when tethering
Another reported issue involves "Cast My Apps," an Android smartphone integration feature, failing to operate while tethering.
Although internet sharing via tethering works normally, attempting to run "Cast My Apps" over the same connection gets stuck on the QR code screen, preventing setup completion.
This issue has been reported with device combinations like a Lenovo Googlebook with a Pixel 11 Pro XL, or a Dell XPS Googlebook with a Galaxy Z Fold 8. In the author's case, it remains stuck on a continuous loading screen.
Rahman stated on Reddit that Google is aware of the problem and developing a fix, though the release schedule remains unconfirmed.
