Google's in-development "Kinmen" is a new device derived from "Fatcat," a reference board powered by Intel's Panther Lake (Core Ultra Series 3) processors.
Initially expected to be a high-end Chromebook Plus, current information suggests it will launch as part of the new Googlebook lineup, mirroring other devices in the Fatcat series.
While details on Kinmen remain scarce, we've rounded up everything we know so far about this upcoming device.
Development Timeline
Development for Kinmen kicked off in April 2025. It is built on the foundations of Brox and Fatcat, which serve as reference boards for Chromebooks equipped with Intel Core (Series 2) processors.
Battery specifications reveal model numbers like "ap23xxx" and "ap24xxx," which are commonly used in Acer devices. This strongly points toward Kinmen being an upcoming Acer Googlebook.
Following a trajectory similar to the "Felino" board, commit logs linked Kinmen to "Aluminium"—the ambitious integration project merging Android and ChromeOS. Following the official announcement of the Googlebook platform, it became clear that Kinmen would be released under this new hardware category.
Additionally, a spin-off model codenamed "Moonstone," based heavily on the Kinmen board, was introduced last September.

For connectivity, two distinct prototype configurations have been spotted in the codebase:

Both layouts support USB4, but max out at two ports. In the triple USB-C configuration, the third port will likely be capped at USB 3.2 speeds.
While deeper technical details remain under wraps, recently leaked Fatcat benchmarks on Geekbench suggest that a configuration featuring at least the Core Ultra 5 335 and 16GB of RAM is in the works.
Which Manufacturer is Behind Kinmen?
s of this writing, there is no direct confirmation of the OEM manufacturing the Kinmen device.
However, the battery model numbers line up perfectly with those typically sourced for Acer hardware, making Acer the most probable candidate. Furthermore, since the derivative "Moonstone" board is already confirmed to be an Acer product, it is highly likely that both devices will launch as sister models in the company's lineup.
Though final specs and branding are still coming into focus, Kinmen is one of the earliest Fatcat-series devices to enter development. We expect it to be a key player in the first wave of Googlebooks slated for release this fall.
