Following the rollout of Googlebook system update 17.CL3B.260622.276.R5, a screen flickering issue on the lower half of the display has been occurring on some Dell XPS Googlebooks.
This issue mainly occurs when windows are displayed in split screen, appearing in the lower half area on the opposite side of the active window, regardless of whether the window is on the left or right. Since this does not occur on the Lenovo Googlebook 15 with the same update applied, it may be an issue specific to the Dell XPS Googlebook.
Symptoms and Occurrence of the Lower-Screen Flickering
The Googlebook OS system update 17.CL3B.260622.276.R5 released recently resolved web app flickering and Writing Tools bugs reported in previous versions.
On my Dell XPS Googlebook, while the web app flickering issue was resolved, a new issue has occurred where the lower half of the screen flickers intermittently. This mainly occurs when splitting the screen left and right, with the lower half of the inactive side flickering intermittently. In the video below, you can see the screen flickering while typing text with Chrome docked to the left (G key + [), but it also occurs when two apps are placed side by side.
Furthermore, this issue can also occur in the lower portion when windows are freely resized to intermediate sizes, but the issue did not occur when windows were maximized or in full-screen mode.
Issue Not Replicated on Lenovo Googlebook 15
Although the 17.CL3B.260622.276.R5 update is deployed across multiple devices, testing on the Lenovo Googlebook 15 revealed no such screen artifacts, even during side-by-side multitasking.
When asking for information on Reddit regarding this issue, another user using an XPS Googlebook reported seeing the same symptom after the latest update. However, since there are two responses at this time, it is unclear whether other users or devices are affected.
Restarting does not resolve the issue, and since there was no problem before the update, the R5 update may be affecting it.
