Google has published bootloader unlocking instructions for the Googlebook on its official help page. Additionally, John Wu, developer of the Android root management tool "Magisk," has released the corresponding code for the Googlebook, as previously teased.
Unlocking the Googlebook Bootloader
The step-by-step unlock procedure was revealed on the official help page titled "Unlock your Googlebook's bootloader." This feature is intended for developers and advanced users looking to install custom operating systems or test applications.
Users can enable "OEM unlocking" under Developer options in the Settings app and complete the bootloader unlock via the Recovery mode screen.
Unlocking the bootloader completely wipes all data on the device. Because this disables key device security features, unauthorized modifications may lead to hardware or software issues and potentially void the warranty.
Magisk Support and Root Access
On October 5, Magisk developer and Google engineer John Wu posted that new code and instructions for the Googlebook would be released within days. He later reported that Magisk is fully functional on the device and that the code has been made available.
Work is currently underway to build the patching pipeline to deliver a seamless installation process.
While the official help documentation makes no direct mention of Magisk or root access, the combination of official bootloader unlocking and Magisk support enables full system customization via root privileges on the Googlebook.
